Tropical Depression 9: Strong chance it will strengthen later today
As of 10 a.m. Monday, Tropical Depression Nine was located 170 miles WSW of Key West, Florida with winds of 35 mph and a minimum central pressure of 1007mb. TD Nine is forecast to move north of the north coast of western Cuba and farther into the Gulf. There is a strong chance it'll strengthen into a tropical storm (either Hermine or Ian pending what TD Eight does) later today.
Most forecast models take the system toward the Florida Peninsula Thursday or Friday. There's still some uncertainty regarding the exact path and eventual strength of the storm. All of us along the coast from Mississippi to Florida need to keep a close eye on future weather updates and we need to have a plan of action ready to put into place.
We'll continue to keep a close watch on the tropics and you can, too! Check out our HURRICANE CENTER page for the very latest information.
