Accusations Against Mt. Vernon Ofc. Dismissed

MT. VERNON, Ala. (WPMI) A Mobile County personnel board has dismissed all accusations against a Mt. Vernon police officer accused of racial profiling and harassment.

Officer Mario Mendola was accused of harassing African Americans. One citizen complained that Officer Mendola writes at least 100 tickets a month and targets black people in the community.

The board Tuesday said the complaints about Mendola were not properly addressed. It stated that Chief Steve Reid failed to properly address the concerns from the citizens and bring them before the personnel board.

The board said the Mt. Vernon Police Department needs to have a written procedure on how to handle complaints from citizens.
