What gray hair means for heart health
Doctors say that hair color can be significant because when a man starts looking older on the outside he's probably showing more signs of aging internally.
Researchers tested this on 500 different men, analyzing their hair color and heart health. Men without gray hair were less likely to have coronary artery disease. But heart risk went up when men had salt and pepper hair or were gray all over, regardless of their age.
Dr. John O'Mara, a cardiologist says, "I think if you're starting to go gray and you're still younger, then it is probably a good idea to think about seeing your doctor."
Dr. O'Mara says that the hair test is a valuable tool. "It is a quick and easy way to know someone could be at higher risk for heart problems."
