Katie Herrera joined the Local 15 Today team in March of 2015 as the morning reporter. The Mobile native couldn't be more excited about reporting and sharing stories happening in her hometown and all along the Gulf Coast!
Katie graduated from Auburn University in 2008, where she reported and anchored for the school's Eagle Eye News. In 2009, Katie began her news career as a general assignment reporter at WZDX FOX54 in Huntsville, Ala., where her favorite story was about a dance program for special needs children! In 2010, she moved to WBRC FOX6 news in Birmingham, Ala., where she'll never forget covering the devastating April 27, 2011 tornado outbreak.
Katie took a break from news when she moved back to Mobile. She served as the Public Relations Director for The Salvation Army of Coastal Alabama for three years, which opened her eyes to the struggles of everyday people right here in Mobile, but also to the amazing and caring people along the Gulf Coast who give back. She also enjoyed getting to work with the media on the other side of the interview.
Eventually, the "itch" to get back into news lead her to Local 15. She's happy to be doing what she always dreamed of, working in morning news. She's grateful for all the people who are willing to get up "dark and early" with her.
Katie is a proud Murphy graduate, grew up dancing with Mobile Ballet and Sheffield School of the Dance, and was a lavender Azalea Trail Maid. She still enjoys dancing in her "old ladies" alumni class at Sheffield's once a week, and loves spending the rest of her time with her family.
