The Southern States Athletic Conference (SSAC) has announced the SSAC Men’s Tennis Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

University of Mobile’s Nick Van Amerom was the recipient on the award.

Van Amerom, a senior from Leeuwarden, The Netherlands, won the award after compiling a 3.59 cumulative GPA and a 18-0 record in singles.

“Nick is a great competitor in the classroom and on the court, said tennis head coach Uwe Tittl. “He is the definition of the term “student-athlete.” He is unbeaten in singles this year and has a very high GPA. He is always one of the first players to practice and he is always looking to improve any way he can.”

Van Amerom is majoring in communications. Earlier this season, he was named to the SSAC First-Team All-Conference team, SSAC All-Academic Team and was the Rams winner of the Champions of Character award.

“I am very honored to receive this amazing award,” said Van Amerom. “I would like to thank the SSAC for recognizing my efforts on the court and in the classroom. Also, I would like to think my parents, coach and teammates who made winning this award possible.”

To be eligible, a student-athlete must have reached sophomore eligibility, have a 3.5 GPA and must have competed in 50% of competitions.

Van Amerom and the rest of the Rams will be in action on May 15th in the NAIA National Championships held at the Mobile Tennis Center.
