Senate committee approves new prison system plan
MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WPMI) —
A bill to build new prisons in Alabama just cleared it's first hurdle.
The senate judiciary committee approved the bill within the hour after weeks of negotiations.
The governor originally proposed a bill to build 4 new prisons.
This bill allows for 3 new prisons and the renovation of Tutwiler Prison for Women.
It now heads to the full senate for a vote.
