Arrest made in New Orleans parade tragedy
NEW ORLEANS, LA (WPMI) —
Police say Neilson Rizutto injured 28 people including a one-year-old. Four students from Spring Hill College in Mobile.
Police say Rizutto had a blood alcohol level of .232.
Three victims remained hospitalized overnight, but no one was killed.
Authorities say Rizzuto crashed his pickup truck just before 7:00 p.m. yesterday at Orleans and Carrolton Avenues.
Investigators say he began driving into a crowd of onlookers as the Endymion Parade rolled through.
According to investigators - there were 28 victims - one of which was a police officer.
Twenty-one victims were transported to local hospitals - most with moderate to serious injuries.
Seven people refused treatment at the scene.
The ages of those hurt ranged from a one-year-old - to a victim in their 50's.
Rizzuto was arrested at the scene and charged with two counts of first degree-negligent vehicular injuring.
He's also charged with one count of hit and run causing serious injury and one count of reckless operation of a vehicle.
Rizzuto remains at the Orleans Parish Prison.
