October 12, 2017 - News to Go
In this morning's news to go:
- A Mobile County parent is accused of entering a middle school Tuesday, threatening to choke a student in class. Gabriel Lawson, 39, is accused of making a terrorist threat at Scarborough Middle School, forcing it into lockdown. Police say Lawson made the threats because his daughter was being teased. A spokesperson for the school system confirms a student had called his daughter a name, but they do not believe there was ongoing bullying.
- School will be in session this morning at Saraland High School, even though a username was altered on a school computer that could be perceived as a threat to Saraland High students. That entry was discovered yesterday and specifically referenced today's date. Superintendent Dr. Aaron Milner says there will be an increased police presence in and around Saraland schools this week. He says, although he encourages parents to send their kids to school today, absences will be excused.
- In the wake of hurricanes like Nate, unlicensed contractors and scammers often come into the affected areas promising immediate clean-up and debris removal. Baldwin County Commissioners say to make sure they have local and state business or contractor licenses and ask for references.
We climbed to 92° on Wednesday in Mobile and that smashed the previous record high of 89°. A cold front will sweep across the area later today and tonight. However, the only difference we’ll notice is a small drop in humidity along with cooler nights. Ahead of the front it’s going to be hot this afternoon as highs climb into the upper 80s. The record high today in Mobile is 89° (2009) and I think we will be within a degree of the record or we'll tie it.
After an uneventful Friday and Saturday, a second and MUCH STRONGER cold front will move through the area late Sunday into Monday. Storms are possible with the front’s passage, but the bigger story is what happens in the wake of the cold front. How does highs in the 70s, lows in the 50s, and much less humidity sound?
