Mobile mom dies in crash on Mother's Day
MOBILE, Ala. (WPMI) —
Family and friends are mourning the loss of a Mobile mom who died in a crash on Mother's Day.
The sudden death of Monica Tunstall, 38, has left those who love her at a loss and overcome with emotion.
Tunstall was well-known in Mobile and Baldwin Counties as a school teacher who had a zest for life and a passion to help others.
Shawnda Smith and Glenda Cooley, Tunstall's aunts, said they got a call from police this morning with the news of her death but they still don't know how the crash happened.
"She loved her family. She had the best personality. Every time you saw her, she was smiling and laughing," said Smith, "She was loved by so many people. Just a beautiful young lady who lost her life too soon."
According to Mobile Police, three people were sent to the hospital after a two car accident at Cottage Hill Road and Knollwood Avenue early Sunday morning.
Family says Tunstall passed away in the Mother's Day crash, leaving behind two 3-year old twins, as well as 12-year old and 17-year old children.
"This is so heartwrenching. It's a hole in our heart that we can't fill," Smith said.
But Madeleine Petite, Tunstall's long time friend, said she had a strong religious faith and the impact of her life will always be remembered.
"She was known throughout the community for helping others. Such a large passion everywhere she went," Petite said, "This is truly a woman that will be missed for a very long time. Forever."
Tunstall's family says they hope to learn more about the crash from police on Monday.
The crash is still under investigation.
