Suspect turns himself in after shooting a man at a Gulf Shores gas station
GULF SHORES, Ala. (WPMI) —
Gulf Shores Police were called out to the Clarke’s Exxon gas station in Gulf Shores regarding a homicide around 8:00 a.m. Monday morning.
According to Jason Woodruff with the Gulf Shores Police Department, the shooter was the person who initially notified police of the fatal shooting.
The suspect surrendered to police near the Cobb Theatre on Highway 59.
"The shooter left the scene and drove approximately one block north. He parked up there at a local motel, and actually he himself called police and said this is where I'm located. He surrendered to the very first police officer he encountered," Woodruff said.
There were also several witnesses who watched the events unfold. One witness went as far as following the shooter after he took off.
"There were quite a few people around. There were witnesses there at the gas station, and I know at least one witness followed the shooter away from here. That witness updated us on the shooters location," Woodruff said.
Officials say the suspect surrendered with compliance.
Woodruff says the suspect is a 26-year-old man.
His identity has not yet been released. The identity of the victim has not been released either.
According to Gulf Shores Police, the suspect fired more than one shot from a shotgun.
The suspect is now being questioned by police.
They believe words were exchanged between the shooter and the victim before the suspect pulled the trigger.
Gulf Shores Police are now working to find out the motive of the shooting.
