Fairhope mayor says hiring freeze is hurting the city

The freeze could have permanent, long-lasting consequences. (WPMI)

The mayor of Fairhope released a statement calling the hiring freeze 'ill-advised'.

Mayor Karon Wilson is calling for the end of the freeze because it is forcing vital services in the community to run short staffed.

The need to end the freeze is approaching dire levels.

Wilson writes in her statement, "Some of the biggest needs we have are currently being unmet and services that are essential to who we are as a city will soon fall by the wayside."

Difficult decisions are having to be made daily to alleviate the problems the freeze is causing.

According to the statement, if the freeze isn't lifted recycling will be decreased, landscaping will wane and the Water Department may switch to a four-day work week.
