Daphne Woman Named National Young Woman of Distinction

DAPHNE, ALA (WPMI) A Daphne woman is being recognized as one of ten Girl Scouts in the country as a National Young Woman of Distinction. Rebecca Pober, 19, created a 30-minute documentary about human sex trafficking in the United States. "It really can happen to anyone," said Pober. "It doesn't matter where you live. It's not something that's only happening abroad."

When she was just 17-years-old, Pober produced, filmed, edited, and narrated the project. Her mother, Elizabeth Citrin, says she could not be more proud. "It is only given to ten women nationally and so, it's super exciting!"

Erin Napp from Citronelle also won the award in 2010.

Now a student at Vassar College in New York, Pober says making this documentary taught her life skills that she hopes to use in her future political career. Her ultimate goal is to make a difference. "If this could save just one girl from being human trafficked," said Pober. "I would be happy with the whole project and feel accomplished."

She will receive her award on October 7th in New York City. CLICK HERE to watch the full documentary.
