Church proposes ordinance change for alcohol
MILTON, Fla. (WPMI) —
Serving alcohol at church functions: it's a new subject of debate in Milton, Florida.
A city ordinance makes that difficult to do, and now one priest is asking the city council to loosen its policy on the matter.
Currently city rules prohibit sales or consumption of alcohol within 500 feet of a church.
The only exception is for sacramental purposes.
After telling parishioners "no" on events like a ladies' wine and cheese social, Church officials took to city council to change the ordinance.
If the ordinance is approved, a final vote will still be needed in October.
