Fighting Back: Prichard After-School Feeding Program
PRICHARD, Ala. (WPMI) —
It’s a problem that plagues many communities, hundreds of children have no food to eat when they leave school every day.
“We want to be sure our kids don’t go hungry….we want to feed them,” said Grenetta Ward with Prichard’s Parks and Recreation.
Ward, along with city of officials, are working to make sure their children have a safe place to eat. The Prichard after-school feeding program is a start. It’s a way to get children off the street, keep them busy, and cut down on crime.
“Any kid from anywhere is welcome to come,” she said.
In order to feed children, she said they need volunteers to serve. Right now, the program is held during the school year. Ward is hoping it will be a permanent program in the city of Prichard.
“If we had a bigger facility to accommodate all the kids,” she said, “we’d be glad to do it”.
