Saraland City Schools making strides
SARALAND, Ala. (WPMI) - It's been nearly a decade years since Saraland broke away from the Mobile County Public School System and formed its own system.
The Saraland City School System opened its doors to students during the summer of 2008.
Since Saraland has become its own district, the population has increased and the district has even earned accreditation!
Since its inaugural year, student enrollment has increased from 1,535 to 3,053 students.
Current student enrollment each campus:
Saraland Early Education Center - 425 students
Saraland Elementary School - 650 students
Saraland Middle School - 924 students
Saraland High School - 1054 students
There are also plenty of teachers and staff in Saraland. The Saraland City School System employs 305 people, of whom 198 are teachers. The pupil-teacher ratio is 20:1.
The city spends about $23 million a year on education, but with new money from a voter-approved property tax increase (a million a year), the school system wants to grow even more.
On March 29, 2017, the advanced awarded district accreditation to the Saraland City School System on. The accreditation cycle serves as a guide for the continuous improvement process.
