Elberta breaks ground for new elementary school explansion
ELBERTA, Ala. (WPMI) —
It was a big day for Elberta Elementary School. Monday, a groundbreaking ceremony was held for the school as part of an expansion project.
Fourteen additional classrooms will be built for the elementary school. However, school officials say Monday's groundbreaking is part of several phases that will one day include a high school.
"Once this is completed were going to move students from the middle school and were goign to allow our 8th graders to stay and become 9th graders next year, and do that each year until we have a full fledged high school," said Elberta Mayor Pro Tem Jim Hamby.
As part of phase one, this time next year Elberta Elementery will be a pre-k through 6th grade school with close to 800 students.
